Intel Intelligent Fabric Leverages Hardware and Software

Intel and Google Cloud Together on the Design, Development of IPU

Intel and Google Cloud announced deep collaboration on the design and development of the first-of-its-kind ASIC-based infrastructure processing Unit (IPU). Code-named “Mount Evans,” this open solution supports open source standards, including an infrastructure programmer development kit (IPDK) to simplify developer access to the technology in Google Cloud data centers.

Intel Tofino 3 Adds Intelligence to Switching

As data centers accelerate into the cloud native era, it is more important than ever to incorporate intelligence into data center fabric. The Intel Tofino 3 intelligent fabric processor does just that by adding intelligence to switching. Additionally, the IFP is fully P4-programmable, placing the power back in the hands of the network programmer, and paving the way to more secure and self-healing cloud fabric. Additionally, the Tofino 3 IFP is supported by a comprehensive suite of development and network-monitoring tools, including Intel® P4 Studio and Intel® Deep Insight Network Analytics Software, which provides increased visibility and control, simplifies integration of container-based micro-services, and paves the way to more secure and self-healing cloud fabric.

Next-Generation Intel Xeon D Processor is Built for the Edge

The network, Internet of Things and enterprise edge infrastructure across smart IoT devices, radio access edge and core networks that communicate to the cloud demand high data throughput and have specific space and power constraints. Many use cases are also converging various capabilities at the edge, such as analytics, media, networking and IoT, and those require support for virtualized, software-defined, cloud native functionality that is optimized for the edge. To address this need, the next-generation Intel Xeon D processor has a high degree of integration, including up to 20 cores, built-in AI, security, advanced I/O and Ethernet, plus dense compute to deliver high data throughput and support workload convergence in high-density BGA package that can be used in rugged environments. With integrated AI functionality, customers can use the Xeon D processor, along with Intel® Smart Edge and OpenVINO™, to deliver edge insights faster in the same manner as the Intel Xeon Scalable processors across the cloud, data center and network. The next-generation Xeon D processor is sampling today and expected to launch in the first half of 2022.

AT&T will Use Intel Silicon for vRAN Network Deployment

Andre Fuetsch, president of AT&T Labs and chief technology officer, shared that AT&T, supported by an established ecosystem of solution providers, will use Intel as a silicon provider for deployment of its forthcoming virtualized radio access network (vRAN). 
AT&T’s rollout strategy will leverage the strength of Intel’s product portfolio. The two companies have been collaborating for years in transforming AT&T’s 5G core and RAN, and the collaboration continues as AT&T further extends the flexibility, scalability and programmability of the cloud to its mobile environment to enable new services and new business efficiencies for its customers.

Intel Helps DEKA Deliver Power Efficiency for Roxo, the FedEx SameDay Bot

For global logistics brands like FedEx, addressing the “last mile” delivery challenge represents a new business opportunity as that final leg of package delivery is often the most expensive. DEKA Research is collaborating with FedEx to develop Roxo™, the FedEx SameDay Bot® designed for reliable, autonomous last-mile delivery to a customer’s door. Roxo is being tested with 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 processors, Intel® RealSense™ depth cameras and uses OpenVINO as the AI inferencing engine. With 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors, Intel is helping DEKA create a power-efficient and high-performing compute platform.

Deploying intelligent robots on streets comes with a host of considerations: fast computation, energy efficiency, safety, privacy in perceptual sensing, software algorithms for tasks ranging from object-detection and motion tracking to navigating unexpected terrains, and – as the units scale in deployment numbers – attention to security and manageability.
